Investing in the Mission: A Four-Year Review, 2023-2026

June 30, 2026

The Generals Redoubt was founded with a commitment to preserving and advancing Washington and Lee’s traditions for future generations. Achieving that mission requires not only meaningful programming, but also careful stewardship of the resources entrusted to us by our dedicated supporters.

The acquisition of Fancy Hill in 2023 marked a transformational moment in the organization’s history. While that year brought significant expenditures associated with establishing a permanent home for The Redoubt, it also laid the foundation for future growth. Since then, investment income has exceeded annual expenditures in both 2024 and 2025. Through June 21 of this year, TGR has already generated more than $240,000 in investment revenue — more than two and a half times the amount generated at the same point in 2025.

These results are encouraging not simply because of the numbers themselves, but because of what they represent. Supporters who invested in The Redoubt over the past several years helped build a financial foundation that is now producing tangible returns for the organization. In other words, gifts made yesterday are helping build the financial foundation that will sustain our mission tomorrow.

Yet success brings new responsibilities. As The Redoubt’s reach and influence continue to grow, so too do the costs associated with carrying out that mission. More students are involved in our work than ever before, and Fancy Hill has become an increasingly active center for programming and fellowship. The financial strength reflected in these charts gives us confidence for the future, but continued donor support remains essential. As we approach the close of “The Standard of Leadership” campaign, we hope you will consider joining our efforts to advance the very best of Washington and Lee.

The Redoubt remains committed to the highest standards of financial stewardship through annual independent audits and compliance with all applicable charitable giving regulations. We welcome any questions about our finances and are always happy to discuss how donor support advances our mission.
